Just as the first batches of Cap'n Crunch hit the high seas in 1963, the S.S. Guppy was launched courtesy of Jay Ward Animation in Hollywood. (Jay Ward Productions has produced some of the worlds most famous characters including Rocky and Bullwinkle, Boris and Natasha, and Mr. Peabody and Sherman.)

Cap'n Crunch, canine first-mate Seadog and a crew of four kids had to always think fast to keep the Guppy's crunchy cargo out of the hands of the scheming yet bumbling pirate Jean La Foote, who always went barefoot. The character was liberally based on the historical figure of Jean Lafitte, the notorious privateer who raided the Louisiana coastline in the early days of American independence.

Here he is, wearing his trademark green suit and purple pirate's hat, and bare feet of course! His right hand holds his sword loosely by his side, while his left hand is bent behind his back. He looks happy and innocent, but we know he must be up to something!
