This little fellow is cute as a button! He was developed by Standard Oil (Esso), now the Exxon Corp., to help explain oil shortages during WWII in Europe. Soon, he was such a hit overseas that he crossed the ocean to make his debut in the U.S. in 1958, where he teamed up with the slogan "Happy Motoring!" He was an instant success to customers, who enjoyed the Little Oil Drop's travels and adventures in the Esso Service Station. Eventually, however, his popularity evaporated when the Exxon Tiger roared into advertising prominence.
This Little Oil Drop from the 1960's is a happy figure, all in red, with the Esso logo gleaming proudly from his chest. He's also a savings bank, which is an appropriate symbol for a quality-conscious product.
