This wise and dignified chieftain is the leader of his people, the tiny mythical Menehunes of Hawaiian folklore. He is very regal with his grey hair and mustache, coral necklace, and tropical sarong. His arm is raised high in a blessing or a welcome for United Airlines passengers arriving in Hawaii.

This Menehune figure is very different from the Menehune couple used to promote Trader Vics. Those were humorous and lighthearted, while this United Airlines icon is a more stately interpretation, representing both the magic of the Hawaiian "little people" and the magic of technology required to fly jets safely back and forth across the Pacific to paradise.
